FAQS

What is psychotherapy? How can it help me?

Most clients seek out psychotherapy when something in their lives is not going as well as they had hoped. Perhaps you have recently lost a friend, gone through a divorce, or become involved in a challenging romantic relationship, for instance? A session with a good psychotherapist can help you begin to sort through some of your emotions and figure out how best to move forward with your life.

Talking to a psychotherapist is very different from talking to a friend or family member. Although these people may be supportive and helpful to you, their advice is typically influenced by their own feelings about the situation at hand. A psychotherapist, on the other hand, does not give advice. He or she tries to help you, the client, figure out what is right for you.

How often and for how long are counseling sessions scheduled?

Typically, new clients are seen weekly or biweekly until a clear treatment plan has been agreed upon. Long-term stable clients may be seen once a month at the discretion of the therapist.

What if I’m interested in services, but I don’t sign ASL fluently?

We also provide services in spoken English, all varieties of sign language, and if need be, simultaneous communication. We have even had clients who used written English by typing back and forth using the Zoom chat box. Regardless of your chosen communication modality, we can work with you to make sure that you feel comfortable and understood.

Why do you need my insurance information before I make an appointment?

We ask for your insurance information so we can make the process as easy as possible for you, although you are also welcome to do the research yourself. If you’d like our help understanding your mental health benefits, we will use the information you provide in the insurance form to find out your co-pay amount and any deductibles that need to be met before insurance coverage applies. You will be fully informed about the cost of a session before your intake appointment.
